Anderson’s Bay School is proud of it’s long standing history in the Anderson’s Bay community, since establishment in 1858 to our present day site and school buildings. We are a school that is steeped in positive history and have exciting directions for the future. At Anderson’s Bay School we work as a team with our excellent teachers, support staff, awesome students, and supportive community.
The Andy Bay Way Anderson’s Bay School develops teaching, learning and school-wide expectations based on our vision of encouraging our students to be the best they can be through reflecting our four core values:
High Achievement – because we value excellence in all areas of life long learning Positive Attitude - because we value confident, curious, innovative learners Respectful Behaviour – because we value respect and integrity A sense of Belonging – because we value participation and tolerance in our community and environment.
The Anderson’s Bay Curriculum At Anderson’s Bay School we are passionate about education and children and are constantly refining our curriculum to meet the needs of our children in an ever changing society. A high emphasis is placed on our core curriculum, enhancing opportunities for our students to reach their full potential in literacy and numeracy. We maintain a strong focus in these areas of our curriculum especially in the first years of education.
Throughout the school, teaching and learning experiences reflect an integration of curriculum areas. We use an inquiry learning process that is aimed at empowering students with knowledge and understandings as well as developing skills that enable our students to locate, understand and apply information. Further extension and support for our students is provided through learning support programmes and our Gifted and Talented Extension programme.
Information and Communication Technology In addition to our curriculum learning opportunities we offer a variety of experiences in ICT. Each of our classrooms have an Interactive whiteboard where our students and teachers use up to date technologies We access the best multimedia learning tools through software and internet based applications. All classrooms have at least two fully networked PCs, and experiences are also received through our dedicated computer room, housing a large pod of laptops that classes use.
Before and After School Care At Anderson’s Bay School we provide supervised care from 8:00 am to 8:30 am in our Early Birds Programme. After school, supervised care can be accessed through the School’s Out programme which is run on our school site.
Education Outside the Classroom From Year 0 – 6 we aim to provide opportunities for children to gain experiences in areas outside of the classroom. We operate a variety of school trips centred around our teaching programmes. In addition to these experiences Year 5 students participate in an Outdoor Education Week which includes an overnight stay at the Otago Museum. Year 6 students spend a week experiencing various outdoor activities at a school camp. A wide range of sporting and athletic activities are offered at Anderson’s Bay School. These are proudly coached and supported by staff and parents.
Marvellous Monday Feeling confident and secure at Anderson’s Bay School is important to us so we offer a Marvellous Monday programme where we invite children to come along to school. This is during the 6 months prior to their fifth birthday, so they can experience what school is like, listen to the sounds, interact in the new entrant classrooms and begin to develop relationships.
Experience in the Arts Children at Anderson’s Bay School are presented with a wide variety of opportunities to become involved in performing, cultural and visual experiences. We have an active Kapa Haka group that perform at various occasions including the Polynesian Festival. Children also get opportunities to take part in performances through our school choir, Stars on Stage and school productions.
