Marvellous Mondays

All children are welcome during the 6 months prior to their 5th birthday

When ? --- Mondays, 1:30 to 2:45pm

Where ? --- Our new entrant classrooms, Room 1 and Room 2

This is an opportunity for your child to experience what school is like and to enable them to begin their school life with ease. We ask that parents stay with their children, however you are welcome to have a coffee in the staffroom during the session.

EXTRA SUPPORT

Our school employs a teacher's Aide (20 hours per week in 2006) to work with pupils who find schoolwork challenging. They work with children in and out of the classroom.

We asked the Education Review Office to review these two programmes in 2005. In their report they stated

"Support programmes are an integral part of the overall curriculum.  The board provides these additional programmes as part of its overall goal of catering for the individual needs and potential of each child.  ERO focused on the literacy support programmes and the extension and enrichment programmes for identified students.  There was also an opportunity to view the transition to school programme for pre-school children.  The extension programmes are a recent development that have been put in place ahead of the specific requirement to have programmes for gifted and talented students."

GIFTED and TALENTED (GATE)

The school runs a GATE programme for children in Year 3 upwards. A part time teacher is employed to rum the programme for the second half of Term 1, Terms 2 and 3 and the first half of Term 4.

We have defined a "Gifted" child as  one whose potential in one or more curriculum areas would place him or her in the top 2-5% of children of the same age. Gifted and Talented children at Year 1 and 2 levels will be catered for within classroom programmes.
