On Wednesday 22nd March, the Kowhai Team classes went on a trip to Bethune’s Gully and then to the Woodhaugh Gardens. When we arrived at Bethune’s Gully, we had our morning tea before we set off on a hike up the track. It was a steep climb, we saw lots of native bush and birds along the way. Some children found some silver ferns. We also saw lots of cheeky little piwakawaka (Fantails) who flew quite close to us as we walked.
When we got back down to Bethune’s Gully, we packed up and went on the buses to go to Woodhaugh Gardens. By the time we arrived at the gardens everyone was very hungry and ready for lunch. After our picnic lunch everyone had a chance to play on all the playground equipment. One of our Dads was so energetic and gave about 100 children a turn on the flying fox!
After our play we did an orienteering treasure hunt around the gardens.
To finish off the day, we played some team games.
We are very grateful to our group of parent helpers who looked after groups of children for the day.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and felt pretty exhausted by the time we got back to school.
