The New Zealand Educational Institute has called a paid union meeting for all teachers on Tuesday 20th March, starting at 1:00 pm. It is expected that all teachers from our school attend in order to discuss NZEI claims and negotiations. Therefore, it is necessary for us to call on the support of our community and request that children be picked up from school at 12:30 pm. If you are unable to pick your child up at that time please send a written note to school and supervision can be provided until 3:00 pm. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Over the past days I have been monitoring the traffic along Jeffery Street. Although I can certainly appreciate the additional frustrations of road closure and the inconsistency of work along Jeffery Street, this is something that is currently unavoidable. However, it is avoidable to have dangerous and illegal driving practices around our school. I get very concerned regarding the safety of our children when I see people driving fast along Jeffery Street, parking on yellow lines, pulling into driveway entrances to let children out of the car and then backing away, letting children out of the car in the middle of the road, and other unsafe driving and parking practices. Again, I can appreciate that the recent wet weather has compounded our street difficulties, but, at these times our driving practices should be even more careful. A reminder, also, that our school carpark is closed to all cars, except staff vehicles and that the entry way is not a drop off point.
My major concern is the safety of our children. When people are parking illegally it is not only inconsiderate it is also highly UNSAFE. I urge you to please SLOW DOWN around our school and PARK PROPERLY, otherwise we are going to end up with one of our children hurt. It doesn't matter if you "are just going to be there for a minute" or were "running late" or "it is raining so hard" not parking properly is not OK.

We have had some recent cases of children being unwell at school. The Anderson's Bay School Policies and Procedures outline that children are required to be away from school for 48 hours following their last incidence of vomiting or diarrhea. If your child has been unwell, it would be greatly appreciated if you could keep to these guidelines, assisting us to keep the spread of germs and bugs to a minimum.

The following letter has been sent to our schools for advice regarding Whooping Cough. There is some very important information and advice for our families regarding this illness. Please find it attached below for your information.

As you will be aware it is important that we are able to account for any child's absences from school. As part of our record keeping requirements for the government we are required to code and identify the reason for a child's absence or lateness to school. Can we ask that if your child is absent from school that you please leave a message, before 9:00 am, on our absences voicemail by calling the school office on 454 4413. In this message can you clearly state your child's name, their classroom number and the reason for their absence, it is also helpful if you can leave a contact phone number, in case we need to contact you back.

The Anderson's Bay School PTA will again be co-ordinating entertainment books for our school. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to provide these books to our community and also to support the fundraising ventures of our PTA. Information regarding the sale and purchase of these will be coming in the near future, we look forward to your support of our school in this fundraiser.
