"Night at the Library”

Can you help??!!

Planning is well underway for another fantastic Andy Bay School Show.

We need your help. If you can spare a bit of time to sew, paint or create we need you.

Please don’t be put off by thinking you are not creative, we will let you know what is needed and provide pictures of ideas.  It would be good to have set and props underway by the end of term. The show is on July 5th,  Week 10, Term 2.

We will have a bit of sewing to do but it will not be difficult! Please email us your details if you can offer some assistance in this area.

We are also still on the lookout for the following items:

  • Large grey ring binder folders.

  • Big flat cardboard to paint as backdrops

  • Smaller cardboard for headbands

  • Red, black, brown and white material

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in contact with Emily or Tania.

Items can be dropped in to Room 3 at any time or contact either   emilya@andybay.ac.nz or taniap@andybay.ac.nz if you think you can help in any way. Thank you for your support.

Code Avengers

Code Avengers

This year Anderson’s Bay students have been provided with access to a computer coding website called Code Avengers. This programme is an excellent way for your child to build their understanding of mathematical concepts and will teach coding skills from beginners all the way to Year 13.

To access this at home go to www.codeavengers.com and login in using your child’s school email and password. If your child has forgotten their school login details, please email your child’s classroom teacher.

Students in Year 1-6 click on JR Courses

If your child has coded before they may already be on the Pro courses.

Enrolment at Anderson’s Bay School is governed by an Enrolment Scheme. For Terms 3 and 4 in 2018, the Anderson’s Bay School Board of Trustees has identified limited spaces available to children outside of their school zone, who are starting school for the first time, in Year 1, between 6th July and 14th December. Application for enrolment for these out of zone places may be made, before Monday 9th April 2018, to the School Office, ph. (03) 454 4413; admin@andybay.ac.nz For further information about the enrolment scheme please make contact with the school or visit the school website www.andybay.ac.nz/enrolment-scheme

Changes to Education and Schooling

At the end of 2017 "The Government announced that National Standards will be removed from 2018. Instead the Government will focus on the progress and achievement of all children across the wider New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

This change will better acknowledge the different ways and pace at which children learn, and support teachers to provide more learning opportunities based on what children already know and can do. The new focus will strengthen educational partnerships between parents, schools and kura.

Schools and kura will still be required to report to parents, at least twice a year, on their child’s progress and achievement, especially in the foundational learning areas of maths, reading, and writing. But schools and kura will no longer be required to use National Standards."

So What Does This Mean For Anderson's Bay School?

From the beginning of this year our school has started to prepare for these changes.  We will be reviewing our current assessment and reporting practices to align these with the new governmental direction.  This will mean that we can expect some changes to our written report formats and potential timings of written reports.  This significant change in New Zealand schools provides an ideal time for us, as a school to review not only our reporting, but also many of the other things that we do.  To assist us in making some critical decisions, can I ask you to please take the time to complete a survey, by following this link

Strategic Planning Survey

The survey will take approximately ten minutes to complete, but will give us a great deal of very beneficial information.  Therefore, it is greatly appreciated that you set the time over the coming week or two to complete this important information gathering document.
