School Closure - Strike Action

As you will now be aware New Zealand Primary Teachers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a full day strike on Wednesday 15th August.

Teachers have not made this decision lightly.  Evidence and reasons for this action:

  • The biggest impact on students succeeding at school, is having a quality teacher in front of them.

  • The future of society depends on the strength of our education system and the quality of our teachers.

  • To attract quality, motivated and high calibre professionals, the conditions and pay must reflect that NZ values education.

  • We need the best learning support to ensure all student’s learning and behavioural needs are met and exceeded.

We are proud of our children and especially how tidy and smart they look in the Anderson’s Bay School uniform.  It is an expectation that children will wear the correct uniform at school.

  • Black shorts/skort, black school track pants, blue school polo-shirt,  zip fleece blue-black jacket, microfleece black top; school sun-hats terms 1 and 4.

  • Visible undergarments must be black only

  • Appropriate footwear to be worn please.

Refer to the school website for uniform supply information.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Your child may be given a reminder about their uniform if they are seen wearing non-uniform clothing.

Lost Property

We have quite a lot of lost property.  Most of the lost property are unnamed school uniforms, or have the name of children who have on-sold it to current unnamed students.

Parents, please ensure you name all of your children’s clothes.

Items that have been in the Lost Property box (in the school hall) will be dated and recycled after 8 weeks.

Early Birds

image.png (4)

At the beginning of Term 3 we changed the way payment of Early Bird fees is handled.

If you want to "pay as you go" then all cash payments are to be sealed in an envelope with your child/ren(s) name and Early Birds written on the front.  This can then be posted in the box in the school office.

The preferred option is for parents to pay on-line.    If paying on-line please use your child/ren(s) name(s) and Early Birds as a reference.  The Bank Account number is: 03-0905-0904389-00

An alternative is to pay by eftpos at the school office.  Credit cards are not accepted.

Totara Team Edgar Sports Sessions

The Totara Team enjoyed their first of 5 sessions at the Edgar Centre on Tuesday afternoon.  They participated in 6 different sports; netball, badminton, volleyball, games, cricket and football.  Will from Otago Cricket and Danny and Alex from Football South also joined our activities which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Children travel to and from the Edgar Centre by bus, leaving school at 1:30pm and returning at 2:55pm.  Further sessions will be on the following Tuesdays:

  • 14 August 2018
  • 28 August 2018
  • 11 September 2018
  • 25 September 2018

Please ensure your child wears suitable footwear, and their sports T-shirts, and shorts or skorts.  A waterproof jacket is recommended as it often rains on sports days and we sometimes have to wait on the bus in unsheltered places.  Parent help is not required for these sessions.

The PTA have an important role in the function and resourcing of the school. They have worked tirelessly to support many initiatives within the school, such as the environmental garden, playscape development, Discovery Friday, games in classrooms, technology purchases and the School Fair - among others.

They would like to extend an invitation to all parents to join their meetings and the organisation. They assure all prospective members not to be put off by the thought of highly demanding tasks: parents contribute only as their time and means permit and new parents are supported by current PTA members to help with events.
