Welcome New Children

Totara's Art Workshop

On Tuesday 29 May a group of children from across the Totara classes were lucky to take part in an art workshop. This was taken by Kerry Mackay and Pamela Brown and was called "Painted Poems".

The children spent the morning creating a painted poem based on the poem Axis by Cilla McQueen.

The children worked with a limited colour palette to create a background using a variety of brush strokes and mixing colours. They then painted on a word or phrase they were given. The children investigated further concepts of colour mixing, spacing, and decorative techniques while doing this. The final step was hearing the poem and placing the words created in order and seeing the finished product. The poem will be displayed in the stairwell between Room 9/10, please come and have a look!

Paid Union Meeting

The New Zealand Educational Institute has called a paid union meeting for all teachers on Thursday 28th June, starting at 1:00 pm.  It is expected that all teachers from our school attend in order to discuss NZEI claims and negotiations.   Therefore, it is necessary for us to call on the support of our community and request that children be picked up from school at 12:30 pm.  If you are unable to pick your child up at that time please send a written note to school and supervision can be provided until 3:00 pm.  I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Wintery Weather, School Closures and Late Starts

Although the image below may seem like a very distant memory or something that couldn't possibly be on the horizon, given our recent weather, I am aware that these conditions could move into winter conditions very quickly in the not too distant future.  On occasion, schools may have a late start or closure for inclement weather, this could be for snow, ice or, as we found out earlier this year, flooding.  Although at times the conditions around Anderson's Bay may not reflect the road conditions for some of the other major roadways in Dunedin, decisions for late starts or closures are made  as a "blanket decision" for all schools in the Dunedin area, taking into consideration the need for staff and families at schools to travel across the city.  Decisions to have a late start or closure will be notified on Classic Hits 89.4 FM.  As soon as we receive notification of a late start or closure an email will be sent to all families and a note will be put on the home page of our www.andybay.ac.nz school website, in addition to these two points of communication we will also send out a SKOOL LOOP SMS message.
