We would like to welcome Caitlin. It is wonderful to have you at Anderson's Bay School.
Just a brief reminder that tomorrow, Friday 9th September, is the final day for applications for out of zone enrolment vacancies for the first half of 2017. Please find below the original advertisement, for your information.
Our Anderson's Bay School Playscape is progressing extremely well, despite our recent burst of wet weather. As part of keeping costs down and allowing us to achieve all of our Playscape goals we would like to hold a working bee on Saturday 17th September, from 9:00 am. The nature of the working bee are some basic landscaping developments, including moving gravel, planting trees and some area development. If you have a couple of hours that you and are able to donate these to this project, we would greatly appreciate any time and support you can offer. Please contact Geoff Markby, either through the school office or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
The safety of our children as they move to and from school is very important to us, and our Road Patrol team are a vital part of this. Changes in commitments and availability for some of our parent supervisors over the course of this term, particularly mornings, has left a number of gaps in the roster of helpers which we are struggling to fill.
Parent Supervisors provide an extra pair of eyes to help our Year 6 Patrollers with making sure that conditions are safe before allowing the children to cross the road. Both Highcliff Road and Jeffery Street carry a lot of traffic before and after school, and Anderson’s Bay School is authorised to undertake school patrol on the pedestrian crossings on Highcliff Road and Jeffery Street. Morning patrol (Highcliff crossing only) runs from 8.30am to 9.00am and afternoon patrol (both the Highcliff and Jeffery Street crossings) from 2.55pm to 3.15pm. Parents will usually do a fixed morning/afternoon each week.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once a week to help as a Patrol Supervisor, please e-mail Jonathan Hinds at email@example.com with the following details:
Helping with Road Patrol is a very practical way to support the school and our community, There’s nothing complicated involved, and you will be shown what to do.
Thank you for all our families who have observed that the Playscape development area, beside our staff and bottom carpark, is restricted to access. This is currently still the case. Please, can I ask that vehicles do not come into this area before and after school, as this creates an additional hazard to this construction area. We are all very aware of the difficulties in finding carparks along Jeffery Street, however, I must ask that everyone observes the safety and parking guidelines around our school. Only park in the streets in proper parking areas, please do not park over driveways, near corners/intersections, or in the school gate entry area, not even as a quick drop off, as this endangers the safety of others.
The Playscape no longer has a need for 2 tractor tyres. They are free to anyone who would like them for use as a sandpit, climbing device etc. Geoff would be happy to deliver them on his trailer. Similarly, if you could help us dispose of them should they go unclaimed please contact Lizzie or Geoff.
In preparation for 2017, we have confirmed the start and finish dates for Anderson's Bay School. Please find the details below for these dates, along with all term dates during the year.

The Year 6 children are fundraising for their camp to be held in December.
These are a great option on those cold winter days when it’s nice for the kids to have something hot for lunch. It also gives parents a day off sandwich duty! We hope you will support our Year 6s in their fundraising efforts.
How to order:
Please place the correct cash ($2 per sausage) in an envelope with your child’s full name, class number and number of sausages required and post in the slot in the office before 3pm on the Wednesday. You can also pay by EFTPOS.
Never have the correct change in your wallet? How about ordering for a block of weeks or the whole nine weeks? Simply place the correct amount in an envelope with the details listed above and stating which dates you wish to order for.
Friday sausages will be offered during Terms 3 & 4.
The PTA is looking for helpers to collect gold coin donations in the Cadbury Carpark on Saturday 22nd October(Labour weekend) during the Farmers Market. All donations collected go to the school. If you have a spare hour or 2 and can do this to help out the school email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
On occasion, schools may have a late start or closure for inclement weather, this could be for snow, ice or, in the case of last year, flooding. Although at times the conditions around Anderson's Bay may not reflect the road conditions for some of the other major roadways in Dunedin, decisions for late starts or closures are made as a "blanket decision" for all schools in the Dunedin area, taking into consideration the need for staff and families at schools to travel across the city. Decisions to have a late start or closure will be notified on Classic Hits 89.4 FM. As soon as we receive notification of a late start or closure an email will be sent to all families and a note will be put on the home page of our www.andybay.ac.nz school website.
As you will be aware it is important that we are able to account for any child's absences from school. As part of our record keeping requirements for the government we are required to code and identify the reason for a child's absence or lateness to school. Can we ask that if your child is absent from school that you please leave a message, before 9:00 am, on our absences voicemail by calling the school office on 454 4413. In this message can you clearly state your child's name, their classroom number and the reason for their absence, it is also helpful if you can leave a contact phone number, in case we need to contact you back.
